QUEENSRŸCHE Recording Shows For Upcoming DVD
February 1, 2005QUEENSRŸCHE frontman Geoff Tate recently spoke to The Saratogian about the group's current tour and their forthcoming CD, the next chapter to the 1988 ground-breaking concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime", tentatively titled "Operation: Mindcrime II".
According to Tate, the band's current tour is an introduction to the new album — a 15-year later outlook.
"This would be a nice little prelude to the release," Tate said of the tour.
The "Operation: Mindcrime" sequel came to life after Tate said he started writing "Operation: Mindcrime" into a screenplay and realized there were vague parts to the story.
"There's a lot of information that could be revisited with a sequel," he said.
So far, he said, the response to revisiting "Mindcrime" and its sequel has had a huge response.
"Almost all of the shows are sold out. The audience seems to really like it," he said.
Tate is excited about the addition of actors, which makes the show much more than a concert.
"They give the characters a face," he said. "It took a month of planning and three weeks of rehearsals and arrangements. It's very challenging to make it all work. There are a lot of intricacies."
The new album should be out sometime in the fall, and the band is recording shows in hopes of releasing a DVD, Tate said.
Tate is enjoying this trip down memory lane as much as he enjoys looking ahead and exposing new fans to the band's music.
"A second generation of QUEENSRŸCHE fans are bringing their kids," he said. "But it's fun to kind of relive the past, a look back at 15 years ago at where you were and what you were doing."
